Vanessa was an illustration done in Illustrator from a photo. The technique involved overlapping shape after shape after shape with each shape having a high level of transparency. The more layers one uses the darker the colour gets. This technique also allows for some interesting blending options, which can make something look almost as if it’s been painted.
The illustration of Vanessa was then turned into the poster shown here. Font choices and layout were done to emulate the style of vintage soul music posters.
