This design is for the cover of the Flax Art catalogue. They have an ongoing competition for people to submit designs for the covers of upcoming catalogues.
While doing thumbnails for this project one of my thumbnails, which was originally for a completely different idea, struck me as being reminiscent of not only a 70s style of art but of the art of a particular artist who was very popular at the time: Peter Max.
One of the things I loved about some of Peter Max's earlier art was that it looked like modern computer vector art but was all done by hand with paint and brush. This project was done entirely in Adobe Illustrator, of course, but still manages to capture the spirit of the artwork originally done by Peter Max in the 60s and 70s.
